Quality Cheap Wine or Just Cheap Wine?

January 7, 2009 | 2 Comments

If you are like me and found that wine was your poison, then you might have noticed it is not like buying a 12 pack of Bud Light. You got pay a price for a bottle that you will have to finish. In general your wine will spoil if left it out over night after opening. I have tried the tricks like pressurizing the bottle, refrigerate down to just above freezing, and I found they don’t work well. Look for the CHEAP WINES!!! The guy or gal who has a closet full of $40 to $70 dollar bottles feels great about his or her collection!! Yet odds are if they did not educate themselves on the life span of certain grapes, they might have a bunch of drain cleaner waiting to be emptied into the belly of the earth. If you have tried these ones I am about to list below then let me know. OH YA!! Don’t forget to register!! It is free!!

Oak Leaf Vineyard Pinot Grigio Chardonnay —– at $2.97 a bottle!! Just dump it if you hate it!!

Alice White Red Lexia — This makes a great Social Wine. At 4.00 to 6.00 bucks a bottle.

ROOT:1 Cabernet Sauvignon —-Now this is A decent Cabernet Sauvignon that I first found at World Market, then I found it again at Publix(A grocery Store Chain) Runs about $8.00 to $11.00 a bottle. WORTH IT!!

On the palate, its silky, well-balanced body is enhanced with hints of pineapple, grapefruit and spices that carry through to a crisp, dry finish. A premium wine sold mostly in bottles, Vendange added these small boxes to their offerings in 2004. Containing a little more than three glasses per box (similar to a small bottle of wine), Vendange comes in lightweight containers meant for convenience (no corkscrew necessary, like other wine boxes) or to be given as gifts. Vendange boxes offer reds and whites.

Wine Makers Comments: The grapes came primarily from the Lodi region, which has absolutely nothing in common with Italy except for producing great Pinot Grigio grapes grown by grizzled old guys who look like they should be nursing espressos and playing bocce ball. WINEMAKING We night-harvested the fruit to maximize its freshness, then pressed it directly to stainless steel tanks, where it chilled out for 12-24 hours. Then we cool-fermented the clear, cold juice to extract every oodle of freshness and purity. (It’s a Yankee Oodle Dandy!) This Pinot Grigio never saw oak, never even dreamt about oak, because oaky Pinot Grigio is, well, just plain wrong! However, we did blend in some Chardonnay for added richness, then expeditiously bottled the wine, so it would reach you as fresh, plump and wholesome as the girl next door. (Fear not, we’re done with the girl-next-door metaphor.)

Winemaker’s notes:
Blend: 94% Pinot Grigio, 6% Chardonnay

This wine has a clear, straw yellow color, with light golden reflections. A low concentration of Surmaturo grapes gives the wine tropical fruit notes that make the vintage truly unique. The wine possesses pleasant floral and tropical fruit aromas, and has a light, crisp, clean and refreshing flavor, with fruit character and refined elegance.

Delicious. Delightful. Like a splash of cool water on a hot, sunny day. Expect the scent of honeysuckle, the subtle tastes of fresh lime and juicy pear, and a clean, dry finish. A hint of pink grapefruit and light floral aromas make our light-bodied Pinot Grigio delightfully easy to appreciate. Turning Leaf Pinot Grigio pairs deliciously with fresh grilled shrimp, Cajun gumbo, and so much more. Try it for yourself.

Cheap Wine Critics Remarks: This Oak Leaf Vineyards Chardonnay / Pinot Grigio was very decent. We thought it was similar to other low priced pinot grigio’s. The aroma of this wine was a sweet and fruity, while the flavor I detected was of apple with a slight sour aftertaste. Kinda like a Washington green apple.
