Quality Cheap Wine or Just Cheap Wine?

January 7, 2009 | 2 Comments

If you are like me and found that wine was your poison, then you might have noticed it is not like buying a 12 pack of Bud Light. You got pay a price for a bottle that you will have to finish. In general your wine will spoil if left it out over night after opening. I have tried the tricks like pressurizing the bottle, refrigerate down to just above freezing, and I found they don’t work well. Look for the CHEAP WINES!!! The guy or gal who has a closet full of $40 to $70 dollar bottles feels great about his or her collection!! Yet odds are if they did not educate themselves on the life span of certain grapes, they might have a bunch of drain cleaner waiting to be emptied into the belly of the earth. If you have tried these ones I am about to list below then let me know. OH YA!! Don’t forget to register!! It is free!!

Oak Leaf Vineyard Pinot Grigio Chardonnay —– at $2.97 a bottle!! Just dump it if you hate it!!

Alice White Red Lexia — This makes a great Social Wine. At 4.00 to 6.00 bucks a bottle.

ROOT:1 Cabernet Sauvignon —-Now this is A decent Cabernet Sauvignon that I first found at World Market, then I found it again at Publix(A grocery Store Chain) Runs about $8.00 to $11.00 a bottle. WORTH IT!!

Wine Makers Notes: Carmenet pulled off a nice, inexpensive wine here. Full aromas of grapefruit and gooseberries are followed by pure fruit flavors unburdened by layers of oak. Nice acidity ties it all together.

Black Opal established in 1986, comes from a place of untamed territories and unspoiled land. This is Australia. The land they call “Oz”. The land down under. Brimming with life, Australia is a dreamland rich in culture, diversity and natural history. This is apparent in the crystal blue skies above, in the red landscape, even the glistening opal, and a gem that dates back 60 million years. Among Australia’s magnificent opals, one glows even brighter – the black opal. Like their namesake, Black Opal wines are purely Australian, offering up the glowing mystique that is Australia. Tap the truly Australian Black Opal wines and discover the mystery. The Black Opal wines are sourced from vineyards found in South Australia along the Limestone Coast, at Langhorne Creek and in the infamous Barossa Valley.

Wine maker notes

The 2006 Black Opal Chardonnay is bright straw in color. Aromas of peach, melon and citrus develop into a crisp and delicious finish.

HRM Rex-Goliath 2006 Chardonnay

Wine makers Notes: The 2006 Rex Goliath Chardonnay is fresh and lively with supple tropical fruit . . . a true expression of cool-coastal-climate Chardonnay. Abundant, ripe, tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and melon are coupled with well-integrated layers of creamy lemon curd and hints of vanilla. I’ve added aromatic white varietals to provide layers of delicate floral notes coupled with bright citrus character. Round fruit and vibrant acidity are harmoniously balanced with the bold influence of French oak. The oak used for our wines is a proprietary blend of French oak, with varying degrees of toasting. This gives the Rex Goliath oak profile a distinct flavor, like no other wine on the planet! To me, this is the ultimate food wine . . . it goes with everything from ahi tuna tartare, to Asian chicken salad, to good ol’ mac and cheese!
