Perrin and fils reserve

Perrin and fils reserve is a great bottle for under ten bucks. It’s very fruit forward for a Rhone wine. Lots of berry’s on the palate with soft tannins. The southern Rhone region of France is seeing a bit of a boom right now so the prices are starting to reflect that. This wine has managed to stay at a great price. I believe this wine is all granache but I could be wrong. This is red that won’t hold up to a steak, but a great red for a chicken or pork meal. I mostly drink French wines( especially Rhone) and I think for some starting to jump into wine it’s a nice start.

Perrin Reserve CdR is a 70% Grenache/20% Syrah/10% Mourvedre blend (This is why CdR blends are called GSM’s in Oz) and the baby brother of well known Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape.
The Perrin family of winemakers know their stuff, it’s always a well made CdR and very nice indeed in their good years. We’ve had a lot of pretty good years from the Rhone in the past dozen years.

Plums, dark fruits. Moderate tannins. To me, it holds up well to grilled chicken, burgers, lamb and any casserole with garlic. The Perrin clan are all about ‘ogranic’ and ‘bio diversity’ so it’s probably as healthy a quaff as you could ask for.

The Perrin clan also make La Vielle Ferme - Cotes du Ventoux at a slightly lower price point - less fashionable vinyards. Less fashionable perhaps but still very nice and in the same ‘neighborhood’. A little less tannin than it’s brother (above) and it’s made without Mourvedre, replacing that rather spendy rascal with less expensive Carignan & Cinsault. Blend and region are different enough that you’ll most def. be able to tell the difference between the two wines (they make a nice ‘wine tasting’ combo, in fact). Priced right, and goes on sale at bargain prices around here. I stock up then as this is one of my ‘house red wines’. When purchased at these sale prices, I do not tell friends what a bargain it is. I let them think it costs twice the real price. There are some who will honestly enjoy it more, and who am I to rob them of that pleasure. Heck, I’d rather just give ‘em twice as much fun for the same money.
